NSW Higher School Certificate English
English is a compulsory part of the NSW Higher School Certificate. The syllabus is divided into different levels. Standard and Advanced each comprise 2 units of study, and Extension 1 and Extension 2 comprise 1 unit respectively. Advanced is a prerequisite for the study of Extension 1, and both of these subjects are a prerequisite for Extension 2.
Students who have been residing in Australia for five years or less when they reach Year 12 are eligible for the ESL course, which constitutes 2 units of study.

Year 9 and Year 10 English – Small Group Classes
écriture is now offering enrolment into small group classes for Year 9 and Year 10 English. The classes will be hosted by Dr Niven Kumar, and will focus on preparing students for the move to senior English studies. Dr Kumar will teach both essay writing and creative writing skills, as well as strategies for effective analysis and interpretation of texts. See our People page for his details.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
To fulfil the requirements for the IB Diploma, all students must study a Language A1 subject. This literature course is offered at both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL). Students complete assessment tasks over the two year course, and sit two examination papers at the end of Year 12, Paper 1 (written commentary on an unseen text) and Paper 2 (essay questions on set texts).
